Big White Opening Pump Track in Village

Can’t wait for opening day to get your shred on? Neither could we. Good news! A pump track and skills course are coming your way. Both will be conveniently located in the village and free to access, so fun on two wheels can be had by everyone, all summer long!

Construction of the pump track has already begun and will be ready to open June 23.

“The infinite flow design of the track will allow riders to choose their own path,” says Theodore Van Orman, Trail Design Lead of Alpine Bike Parks, the company managing the build. “We’re building a track that will attract everyone, from the beginner to the expert.”

If you’re new to mountain biking this is a great way to find your balance and gain confidence before venturing into the bike park. Set up with a series of rollers and berms, it is designed to help all levels of bikers practice looking ahead, work the terrain and improve cornering. Experienced riders – you can find your rhythm, push your speed, and challenge your friends.

The beauty of a pump track is that it can be as easy or as difficult as you make it .…and it’s tons of fun!

Big White Resort Begins Mountain Bike Trail Construction

berm-to-berm

Big White Resort has officially started constructing a world-class, lift-serviced mountain bike trail network.

The resort’s goal is to create a unique riding destination in the Okanagan that speaks to the soul of mountain biking, with trails and services that are built, staffed, and provided by riders for other riders.

The authentic, grassroots biking experience will fulfill the goals of enduro, downhill, freeride, and youth mountain bikers.

“Through the years, I have become an avid gravity mountain biker and often I find my family traveling long distances to ride great trails,” said Big White’s President, Peter Plimmer. “So, I have to say that this project is as much a personal lifestyle decision as it is a business decision. We want to have an awesome place to ride close to home and I believe the personal meaning of this project to our family will differentiate us from other lift-served riding destinations.”

A combination of enthusiasm, terrain, technology, infrastructure and experience will come together to shape this unique biking experience at Big White.

With high tech LIDAR mapping in place, landscape architects Brent Harley and Associates put together the overall Trail Master Plan to create a mix of different trails that maximized the existing resort facilities. The bike business planning, market strategy and trail construction is currently being implemented by Alpine Bike Parks.

The entire Big White community has been celebrating the efforts of the trail crew, who have dedicated their time this summer to cutting and shaping beautiful trails into our existing Okanagan alpine terrain.

“Big White Resort has some exciting collaborations and projects in the works with trendsetting riders, builders and bike industry companies,” adds Plimmer. “We look forward to sharing our story with you as we undertake and continue this exciting and creative process.”
